KALEDIOSCOPE
9th - 10th July, 2010
Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts

Human imagination has the capacity to be colourful and original, shaping our vision of the world around us. From an ordinary workplace to a lively fantasy created within one man’s imagination, kaleidoscope offers a light-hearted view of a creative mind entering a vibrant alternative reality.

I’ve created kaleidoscope with the intention to encourage others to use their imagination to discover the beauty of the creative mind. kaleidoscope aims to provoke thoughts reflecting daily working life and how a different view of the situation can make it all the more interesting.

in state is an abstract narrative telling the journey of two individuals from a society of mediocrity to a new world inspired by optimism, ambition and difference. Everyday life in contemporary society is full of routines repeated each day. This familiar ‘norm’ is explored as the state of mediocrity. in state takes us through the journey of those who break out of this state through the events and challenges they face in their pursuit for success.

THE REAL
7th - 8th November, 2008

Hello?
Technology is becoming the number one means of communication in this fast-paced modern world. How does this impact on face-to-face communication? A struggle between these two forms of communication is evident in this duet. The dancers interact with each other and provide an insight into what communication is realistically becoming today.

Umm…

What creates one’s personal identity – unique personality or belonging to a group? This argument is presented from both perspectives leaving the audience questioning which one is the ‘right’ answer.

Love?
What constitutes love? Is it personal attraction and passionate affection for another person? Or is it a desire for attention, distraction or amour? Could a person say ‘I love you’ to anyone? This concept is explored in narrative form through a fusion of zouk-lambada and contemporary dance styles.
